Medical Laboratory science is one of the least recognized healthcare professions, primarily because it involves very little contact with patients. Yet, Medical Laboratory scientist play a very crucial role is patients health. Many people don’t realize that about eighty-five percent of all medical decisions are based on the results of medical laboratory testing. So basically what i’m saying is that without Medical Laboratory scientist, your doctor is just guessing. Medical Laboratory science is the use of clinical laboratory test to detect, diagnose and treat diseases. Blood, tissues, and body fluids can be chemically analyzed and examined for any abnormalities. This information is then used by the medical laboratory scientist to make a decision regarding the medical treatment the patient will receive. Medical Laboratory scientists work in all areas of clinical laboratory including blood banking, hematology, immunology, and microbiology. They perform full laboratory test from simple blood test, to more complex test to find disease such as HIV/ AIDS, diabetes, and cancer. Medical Laboratory scientists are also responsible for confirming the accuracy of the test results, and reporting the test results to the physicians. The information that a Medical Laboratory scientist gives to the doctors’ influences the medical treatment a patient will receive.
